Sorry, issues with posts this morning.

2 weeks or so was my comment so April 28th is NOT an announced date  :)

As Henry Ford once said, "you can have it in any color so long as it's Black."  Our covers are Black.

As for lined and blank, we have actually given great thought to the design of our paper products.  As with any paper product it will meet some users needs and not meet others.  The great news is we will have many selections that our customers can choose from.  I think over time you will see our offerings very attractive.

Regards

NeoLAB

Thank you for your prompt answer.

  • In regards to Henry Ford's famous line, that did work beautifully in 1922. We are now in 2015. (But black as a starting point is a reasonable choice).
  • I agree with you that you cannot please anyone. However, if you were to take a survey of 1,000 paper products in the USA that are bound books, you'll see that it is unlikely to find 1 or maybe 2 in the combo you chose. So, yes, you cannot please everyone and you will please someone, but pleasing only 0.2% of your market is NOT a wise choice. There is a reason why 998 our of 1,000 paper products are either ruled or blank, but not both. As one wise man once said (from an island just SouthEast from where you are), "Once you can imitate well, then you can innovate better."

Thank you so much,

Sergiu

The pattern seems to be that new types of notebooks appear first on ebay for high prices and then not long after they appear at more reasonable prices on ebay, amazon.com, or both. So here we go:

Professional Notebook

College Notebooks, 8.5x11 inches

Hello tstreete,

Thanks for the update:). The products on those links seem to be reselled by people who bought it in South Korea, where we have started the sales of our new notebook lineup.

However, the pricing is obviously not remotely close to what we intend, so please keep that in mind before purchasing.

We are planning to establish a international shipping channel by April, so please keep tuned:). We will announce the updates via website and forum for you guys to know.

Best regards,

NeoLAB

Can't wait to get these new Journal books.   I love my new pen.  As a previous Livescribe 3 owner I can't tell you how much better and easier my N2 is to use.  Works flawlessly with my iPhone.  Keep up the great work.

Oh no! So close and yet so far!

I'm a many-years Livescribe user that HATES Livescribe the company and their poor quality, quality control, and software development skills.

I've been waiting for the paper announcement, ready to buy an N2 immediately! But this is not the paper I need. :-(

I have filled 18 bound lined Livescribe journals and am filling a 19th. I also have 17 spiral-bound college notebooks filled and have four others in use right now.

It looks like NeoLAB is ready to produce the college notebooks, but the lined journals are still not available. :-(

The paper is the only thing keeping me with Livescribe right now—but the paper is a big deal, much more important than the pen, for a variety of reasons. If the paper didn't matter, I'd just use a stylus and Notability on my iPad!

It feels like Livescribe is a paper company that doesn't quite get electronics—and NeoLAB is an electronics company that doesn't quite get paper. If only one of you would grow into both!

Well... I'll wait for the next round of paper developments from NeoLAB. As soon as you produce a 200 page lined journal, you can have my money and continue to have it at the same rate I've been giving it to Livescribe since 2008.

Hello Tom,

We sincerely appreciate your encouragement. It really means a lot to us:)

There are immediate plans to expand distribution worldwide, and upcoming updates which will greatly enhance user experience.

Thanks a bunch!

Hello Leapdragon,

Thank you very much for your advice. We do strive and devote our efforts to be a great 'paper company' as well, but it seems like there are still unexplored opportunities for improvement:)

Although the current notebook lineup is what we had in mind for the first half of 2015, we are always open for new notebook developments. Your opinion for a 200 page-lined journal will also be carefully considered by our relevant teams.

What we can promise is that we still have tons left to show you guys, Please keep tuned, and we will try our best to fulfill user demands,

Best regards,

NeoLAB

Whilst I doubt it makes any difference, I will also voice my opinion that half lined and half blank is not what the majority of the western world is accustomed to. I am very much looking forward to moving away from the small bound notebooks currently available and in to a very nice lined journal, but half lined and half blank is useless to me, I might as well dispose of the blank pages but that makes it a very bulky and expensive 100 page journal.

I echo what Leapdragon and others have said: Study what your competitor (LIVESCRIBE) has available on the market and make the same available, it's a guaranteed recipe for success and enticing western folk to pick up your pen. Until then, it's really still a gadget, albeit a very nice one, for so many in the corporate world.

Hi Splitter.

We hear your input and it does make a difference.  The paper offering is not really geographically based.  We have many users who in their day to day life want to write and draw and want the option to do so in the same book.   They don't want to draw/sketch on lined paper and they don't want to write on plain.   Because we have this book available outside of the US we are introducing it as an option.

Having said that, we are developing a journal where all pages are lined and will announce it here when it's available.

Regards

I second this opinion with respect to the N2 pen. And I use it with my Android tablet. As to the associated paper products, however .... see my other comment below.

Ah, so well put, leapdragon: "Livescribe is a paper company that doesn't quite get electronics—and NeoLAB is an electronics company that doesn't quite get paper!" You nailed it!

The good news is that paper is MUCH easier to learn, and it is my hope and strong encouragement for the great NeoLAB team to learn it quickly and carefully! Otherwise, they really will miss a fantastic opportunity. I say it's easier to learn because all it takes is to pay close attention to the Livescribe books. So easy. Livescribe really got it very close to ideal on their book structure, suite of products, sizes, colors, lining, etc. It's just that their pens started to really suck a couple of years ago (I too had used their pens for over 6 years!).

So, people at NeoLAB: this is really an opportunity you have the choice to either seize of squander. I hope your choice is the former, because I really love your pen!

Dear NeoLAB friends,

Yes, I understand your point except that "we have many users who" is NEVER a good basis for designing ANY new product. Yes, Microsoft had many (and I mean, MANY) users who were happily using Windows ... yet look what Google did to them with Android.

Here is the bottom line: paper products (blank books) have been around for a LONG time, way before there was any electronic pen. So it's very simple: just look what the VAST MAJORITY of blank books look like and contain. Like I said earlier: take a survey of 1,000 products to be found in stationery stores (brick-and-mortar and/or Web) worldwide. What percentage of those are half lined half blank? My guess: under 0.1%. That should tell you something.

Again, I am not against this "option" as you put it .... only if it was an option. But you chose to launch that "option" first, instead of the basics first. That is plain and simple silly! It's like you deciding to launch the N2 first to work only on Blackberries ... 'cause there are some who still use those critters ... and only later on iPads and Androids. Wouldn't that be silly?

I hope you take all of these comments, mine and other peoples, as a form of help.

THANK YOU for your good work!

It's been a few weeks since the mention of the hard-back journals coming to the US. I haven't seen them show up on Amazon yet. Can we get an update on the progress / ETA to get this up for order?

NeoLAB:

Do you have plans for Professional notebooks that are all lined instead of half lined and half blank? I assume it was a compromise to appeal to a larger audience, but I would think that a lot of people want to have the lined notebook for notes and if they want one for drawing, they might get a separate notebook.

Thanks,

-Jan

Unfortunately, I'm finding the Professional Journal (large) to be problematic. So far while writing on the bottom half of each page the ink stops flowing. I've tried three different refills, all exhibit the same behavior. If I scribble on another piece of paper the ink eventually gets going again, but it remains hit-and-miss back on the Professional Journal. I'm not sure if it's the paper that's faulty or if it's because my hand has been rubbing on the lower half while I fill in the top half but the Ring Notebook doesn't behave this way. So while I like the form factor and build quality of the Professional Journal, I cannot recommend their use due to this problem. I've gone back to the Ring Notebooks for now.
